The preparation
Concept and palette were locked two weeks out: día de los muertos marigold tribute, built around cempasúchil, magenta, papel violet. Florals — ten thousand marigolds, cockscomb, baby’s breath — were prepared in our studio the day before.
The challenge
An ofrenda is sacred before it is beautiful — the family placed every photo themselves while we built the flowers around them.
The result
The marigold arch glowed at dusk as stories were told till midnight; the grandmother said the ancestors would approve of the flowers.
